Compensation

While many organizations are actively looking for opportunities to perform, the main focus of our Dancesport Athletes is on training to compete at ballroom competitions.  So we are more of a sports team, like the Purdue Football Team, than we are a performance group, like the Purdue Jazz Band.

When we perform shows, we usually do so to raise funds for our coaching expenses, to support a cause, to practice our competition routines in front of an audience, or as an opportunity to recruit new members.

While we are taking a break from training to perform, other teams are getting ahead.  Therefore, in exchange for the entertainment please consider a donation to our team.  This will help to cover the performers' costs to perform, which in some cases includes many years of personally funded private dance instruction.  More importantly, it will help us to keep our dues reasonable for the rest of the team.

If you just want to see us in action, we encourage you to attend our callout which occurs twice each year at the beginning of each semester, or our competition in November.

Mock Competition Demonstration

Our most advanced dancers train for about 2 hours each night to prepare for competition.  During practice the dancers perfect up to 10 dance routines that are a little less than 2 minutes each. So, the easiest thing for us to do is to perform a competition demonstration.

After a short introduction describing competition, we would demonstrate a round of about 5 dances.  For each dance, one or more couples would walk onto a wood dance floor, surrounded by audience on all sides, and dance for up to 2 minutes.

Performing Environment

The ideal venue for ballroom dance performance is a nice big wood floor ballroom, with audience all around.

If a wood floor or a large space is not available, we can still perform, but in order to avoid injury, we may be using modified technique that has a little less impact.  Most people won't notice the difference, but we feel it.

For dance lessons, the audience will usually be wearing street shoes, so any type of floor in a large space will work.

Some of our most advanced members are ranked among the best dancers in the nation. We are all trained to entertain large rooms of people with a very professional, family friendly, presentation. This is a perfect way to compliment your entertainment plan for the evening.

Keep in mind, this type of show is very impressive, but requires about 2 weeks of effort from each performer to arrange.
